Welcome to Bonk’s Rides!
The Long Trail Shuttle service and more
About Us
We are Adam (Bonk) and Elizabeth (Teddy) Paashaus, long time backpackers and trail runners. We thru-hiked the LT in 2019 with our two kids (6 and 9), fell in love with VT, and moved here in 2021. We live near the northern terminus of the trail in Montgomery Center. As long time backpackers, we love staying involved with the trail community even when we aren’t on trail ourselves. Let us know how we can help you with your hike!

Text is preferred as we don’t get cell service at home and voicemails don’t come through on wifi. If calling is better, don’t leave a message, just try back if you don’t reach us the first time. You can also text first so we know to look for a call from your number. My phone has been blowing up with telemarketers since a data breach so I’m not big on answering unknown numbers (though I tend to do it anyways during hiking season).

We can help you get where you need to go! We charge based on how long it takes us to do the drive which means shuttles in northern VT tend to be less expensive than those that take us to southern VT and long distance shuttles cost more than short distance ones. If you have a shortish distance you need to travel and using another shuttle serivce located closer to that section off the trail will be less expensive, we will let you know and pass along their contact info.
A few common shuttles with prices. Shuttle prices are based on the carload, up to 4 people (that’s all we can fit)
End to end - $400
Journey’s End to Burlington, VT - $140
Journey’s End to St. Albans - $95
Journey’s End to town (Jay or Montgomery) - $50
Rt 15 (Johnson) to Journey’s End - $95
Let us know where you need to go and we are happy to calculate a price. Contact info above.

We are working on a mini-campground with showers and toilet along with a rustic tiny house rental. However, until that’s ready, if you’re booking a shuttle for us and it helps, you are welcome to camp here for free, fill water from our spigot, use our wifi, and charge your devices. Showers $5 - Laundry not available yet because we line-dry our clothes and that’s weather dependant and I’m not sure you want to hang out that long.

We maintain a little “store” (it’s a box) of some commonly needed items for your convenience. Contents vary but generally w have these items on hand:
4 oz and 8oz fuel canisters, denatured alcohol (if we aren’t the last remaining beer can stove users out there), smartwater bottles (unopened), lighters, ziplock baggies, bug spray, Creepers Toe Socks (this one is because Adam’s sandal business is a dealer so we have them in stock anyways and think they are awesome), TP, snacks, etc.

It’s like a “give-a-penny-take-a-penny” dish but for hikers!
If you’re heading home and have supplies you no longer need that you think might help someone out, leave them in our hiker box.
When getting a ride with us, dig through the box and see if there’s anything you need! It’s all free.

Shakedown your pack, get all your questions answered here. Meet in person or via video call to get help from experienced long distance hikers, local to the area. We hiked the LT in 2019 with our kids, we hiked the JMT in 2009, Elizabeth has hiked the AT, and we’ve don tons of backpacking out west and in the southeast.

This is uncommon but is something folks have needed before. Give someone at home our info. If you don’t check in for a period of time and they get worried, they can contact us. We will consult with them about your last known location, general hiking plan, people you might be hiking with and make a plan. As trail runners, we can drive to various trailheads, go for a run until we find you, deliver a message (it’s probably going to be “call your mom/husband/daughter/etc”), then confirm your location with your loved one when back in cell phone service.
$70/hour
